Apprentice plumber selected for Team UK for WorldSkills event

Briggs and Forrester apprentice chosen for Team UK at WordlSkills event

We are excited to announce that Briggs and Forrester Engineering Services plumbing apprentice Dan Martins has been selected to be part of TeamUK at the WorldSkills finals in Abu Dhabi this October.

Dan achieved a Medal of Excellence at the EuroSkills event in Sweden in December 2016. The two-year (or more) competition process has seen competitors take part in regional heats and national finals before the European event in Sweden. Last month the potential hopefuls had to pass highly testing international standards for the final team selection.

The team of 32 talented skilled professionals, including Dan, will continue to undergo a rigorous regime of Olympic style training in preparation for a very intense week of competition in October. Skills represented range from aircraft maintenance and mechanical engineering, to restaurant service and cyber security.

WorldSkills UK, which helps young people ‘Go Further, Faster’, is spearheading the use of competition in the workplace, training centres, schools and colleges to inspire the next generation and fill the skills gap.

Funded and supported by the DfE, devolved governments and commercial partners, WorldSkillsUK utilises revolutionary training techniques usually associated with elite sporting teams, athletes and competitors. Performance coaches and skills experts spend hundreds of hours honing their skills and drawing upon physical, mental and holistic methodology to produce optimum achievement under the most testing ‘pressure cooker’ conditions.

WorldSkills finals are held every two years when over a thousand competitors from more than seventy countries gather for four days of competition.
