Briggs & Forrester Living Cocoa Works Refurbishment Start on Site

Briggs & Forrester Living have started on site at the Cocoa Works scheme in York, commencing with the above ground drainage works.

We secured the £7.5m contract with Henry Boot Construction Limited and will be responsible for providing the design and installation of the mechanical, electrical and public health services on the project, expected for completion towards the end of 2023.

The refurbishment of the former Rowntrees factory building will see the neglected building, once responsible for making over one billion KitKats per year, restored to its former glory to provide 279 luxury apartments. The apartments will be a mix of studio, 1, 2 and 3 bedrooms, once again establishing a community feel that had been present at the site since the factory was built in the 1890’s until its closure in 2008. One of the key features to this project is the addition of a top floor penthouse deck, with high-quality fixtures and fittings.

Briggs & Forrester Livings scope on this project includes a full electric heating system, traditional bathrooms, intelligent landlord lighting, large basement plant room & a combined sprinkler & BCWS.

We are excited to be involved in the careful restoration of a building steeped in history that for years was central to the economy of the city and provided open space and education facilities supporting the wellbeing of factory workers and their families. The site located on Haxby Road will provide landscaped gardens and communal spaces, making use of the historic design features mixed with contemporary living essentials.
