Briggs & Forrester Special Projects are delighted to announce that they have achieved practical completion on the new build Big Creative Academy in Walthamstow, London. The academy is for students aged 16 to 24 who want to pursue a career in the creative arts industry such as music, media, gaming, events and film/TV.
Working in collaboration with main contractor Farrans Construction, Special Projects were responsible for carrying out the design & build of the mechanical, electrical and public health services for the project. The works to the building comprised of the demolition of the existing central spine building and 2No. Victorian buildings and construction of a new build three storey academy with a gross internal floor area of 3,850m2.
The specialist building features a 200-seater theatre, gym, community café, outdoor performance area and gardens. These facilities will enable young people to have the essential resources they need to help them succeed in a creative career. The academy which resides on a former school site will accommodate up to 400 pupils and is set to open its doors in January 2021.
