Briggs & Forrester awarded contract on Net-Zero School project in South Wales

Briggs & Forrester Engineering Services are delighted to have been awarded the contract to deliver the full scope of MEP services to St.David’s and Llancarfan Primary Schools.

The primary school projects are part of the Council’s 21st Century Schools programme, a long-term improvement scheme that will see £135 million invested to deliver “top-class facilities and ultra-modern learning environments.”

Llancarfan School is one of the first Net-Zero Carbon Schools in Wales, greatly reducing greenhouse gas emissions with any remaining emissions offset, neutralising the school’s environmental impact. This project is a great example of Glamorgan Council leading the way for future net-zero carbon schools in Wales. The new build school and will provide 210 school places and 48 part-time nursery places.

St David’s School will be built on the existing school site increasing the capacity from 140 to 210 providing an additional 70 places. The two-storey development, built on the current school site will consist of classrooms, a hall for sport and dining, offices, a staffroom and breakout areas.

Engineering Services will utilise low carbon solutions such as improved building fabric, maximising solar gains, air source heart pumps and photovoltaic panels.

Appointed by Main Contractor ISG, Briggs & Forrester Engineering Services began the services installation on St. David’s School in February 2021, and commenced on site at Llancarfan school in June 2021.
