Briggs & Forrester Engineering Services have secured the MEP services contract on a new multi storey car park project at Sandwell & City Hospital in Birmingham with VINCI Construction UK for development partner Prime.
The multi storey car parks are being built on behalf of Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust on the existing Sandwell and City Hospital sites and will provide improved access for the hospital users. Making more efficient use of existing land, the car parks will enable the redevelopment of the wider site.
Briggs & Forrester Engineering Services have been appointed as the design and build services contractor responsible for the delivery of the building services from concept through to operation. The 4-storey car park at Sandwell together with remodelling of the immediate surface area will provide 400 spaces, whilst the 6-storey facility at City Hospital will provide 550 spaces.
The car park layouts are based on a traffic circulation model of two one-way circulating routes through the car park, one circulating up and one circulated down. The aisles are one-way with a shared central ramp, which offers good visibility and clarity of navigation for pedestrians and vehicles.
The scheme includes the provision of accessible parking, electric vehicle charging spaces and cycle bays. They will be naturally ventilated to improve energy efficiency.
Engineering Services will begin on site in early 2021 and the project is due for completion mid 2021.
