World class apprentice

We are extremely proud of our craft apprentice Dan Martins who won his heat of the World Skills UK SkillPLUMB competition in Birmingham this week.

Pete Curtis, Labour Manager said “Dan is only part way through his Level 2 NVQ and is already producing fantastic work. I am really impressed by the craftsmanship and skills Dan has displayed, he is a credit to Briggs & Forrester and our training partner EAS Mechanical”

The SkillPLUMB competition has been designed to promote standards and skills across the plumbing industry. Competitors were asked to undertake a series of practical tests based on the workplace which demonstrate their abilities in the following skills:

• bend and joint quality
• efficient use of materials
• Competence with tools
• interpreting drawings and pipe details
• measuring, marking out and cutting pipe work
• using plumb and level
• testing pipe work for soundness
• working safely

WorldSkills UK Competitions inspire young people and adults to be ambitious in their pursuit of skills to the highest level and are the highlight of The Skills Show. During The Skills Show, over 700 of the UK’s most talented apprentices, employees and learners battled it out in 70 Competitions ranging from Forensic Science to Floristry, including fine jewellery, to be named the ‘best in the UK’ in their chosen skill.
