Atherleigh Park, Manchester, health and safety, mental health hospital

Briggs and Forrester is currently working with Kier Construction on a project in Leigh, Greater Manchester for a new mental health hospital, Atherleigh Park.

Recently Kier’s Health and Safety Teams visited the site as part of their Safety Week tour. At these sessions relevant suppliers demonstrate new and innovative safety systems and equipment to the on-site teams. The Kier team carry out presentations on new legislation, targeted safety campaigns and provide advice and information.

RoSPA Health and Safety award winners

Congratulations to everyone in the Briggs and Forrester Group, but particularly to our Health & Safety Team. They received Briggs and Forrester’s 2016 RoSPA Occupational Health & Safety Awards at a gala event in London on Tuesday. Our Group achieved a Gold Medal for the fifth consecutive occasion and the division Engineering Services achieved the President’s Award, following 13 consecutive Gold Awards.

Clay pigeon shoot Catton Hall with Kier

A great time was had by all at a joint Briggs & Forrester & Kier healthcare teams clay pigeon shoot event last week. The weather could have been a little more summery, but it failed to dampen the spirits of all involved!  

Held at Catton Hall, Cheshire, teams were made up from the various companies involved in the recent project at the Robert Jones & Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital in Oswestry; thank you to Kier, Effective Air Solutions Ltd, Starkstrom and Steven A Hunt & Associates.

Cystic Fibrosis Trust 100-mile cycle ride Briggs and Forrester

Congratulations to the team of 23 cyclists from Briggs and Forrester and our clients who pedalled over 100 miles in support of the Cystic Fibrosis Trust on June 9th.

Management buy out Briggs and Forrester Mike Stanton

The 23-person Management Team at the Briggs and Forrester Group have increased their equity stake in the business to 60% following a Management Buyout that was completed on 10 June 2016, supported by funding provided by Barclays Bank Plc.

This follows the Group’s long term strategy of remaining an owner-managed business which commenced with the partial management buyout completed in 2006, where the management team acquired 20% equity in the business.

Dragon Boat event Berkley Foundation

Congrats to the 10-man team from Briggs and Forrester MEP who were victorious yesterday in a Dragon Boat race event in Hackney, organised by The Berkeley Foundation.  Up against 28 other teams from across the industry, our gents battled through several heats to make it to the final, before toasting their success in the traditional way!

The aim of the Berkeley Foundation, part of The Berkeley Group, is to help young people and their communities across London and the South, focusing on homes, jobs, skills and care.

Pretty Muddy Cancer Research UK

Congrats to Briggs and Forrester's Kirsten Daniels and Zoe Fitzhugh on completing the Race for Life Pretty Muddy 5k obstacle course on June 4th. The lovely ladies and their team have raised the brilliant total of £690 so far for Cancer Research UK.

Kelly Moss, Tae Kwon-Do Euro Championships, sponsored by Briggs and Forrester

Good luck to Kelly Moss, Technical Trainee with Briggs and Forrester’s Special Projects division. She has been selected as part of the team to represent England at the UITF European Tae Kwon-Do Championships in Poland July 2-3.

Kelly, aiming the kick in the photo, has been training in martial arts since she was 5 and has been competing for the last 18 years. She’s also been selected to take part in the world team championships in Argentina next year!

We wish her the best of luck in Poland next month.

Royal Star & Garter care home High Wycombe

Briggs & Forrester is honoured to be working on a project with Stepnell Ltd to provide facilities for our veterans and their families in a new 74-bed residential home in High Wycombe for The Royal Star & Garter Homes. The Charity, which celebrates their 100th anniversary this year, provides specialist care for disabled ex-Servicemen and women and their partners.

Building on the Charity’s award-winning reputation for dementia care, the home will feature purpose-designed dementia care accommodation for 30 of the 74 residents.

EuroSkills Birggs and Forrester Dan Martins, plumbing

Congratulations to Briggs and Forrester plumbing apprentice Dan Martins. As part of the WorldSkills competition he has been selected for Team UK at the Euroskills event in Gothenburg, Sweden in December. This is the next stage in possible selection for the world event in Abu Dhabi in 2017.

Dan was chosen as one of the 19 in Team UK after excelling in the national finals at the Skill Show in November. These competitions motivate and inspire apprentices and young employees to push their technical and professional skills, and help to drive UK business and skill levels forward.
