The extension to the existing hospital site was a 2-storey new build with roof top plant space (approximately 3426m²) built on cleared ground between Denbighs Restaurant and the BarnTheatre complex. The new building consisted of: Tumour & Outpatients Unit Inpatients, ADOS & Recovery Area, 4No UCV Orthpaedic Theatres, HUD & Recovery Areas.
M&E services included air handling units, chiller, heating plant, hot & cold water plant including water storage, AGSS plant, LV switch room, IPS & UPS switchgear, medical equipment including operating luminaires, surgeons panels & PACS. The new engineering services were generally designed for a life span of 20-25 years and meet the requirements of the various Hospital operational policies, HTMs and HBMs.

Added value
The project utilised the P21+ NEC 3 form of contract and was administered in a collaborative manner with the Main Contractor. A significant element of the works were successfully manufactured off site to assist programme and ensure high quality. This included main plant assemblies and pipework systems.
The scheme design was based upon incorporation of reputable design arrangements and a selection of standard components from recognised P21+ suppliers. In order to maximise the potential for off site manufacture and minimise on site coordination issues, we successfully 3D modelled the services design.
This was completed in conjunction with the architect and structural engineers using a Common Data Environment. Various review meetings with the client end users influenced the design to ensure the scheme is functional, user friendly and attractive to patients.
What we did for this project...
We have a fully integrated design and build capability across the group, including 3D coordination and Building Information Modelling. By developing the design and being fully involved in the early stages of a project, we can provide timely design solutions and verification.
The group provides a range of specialist skills encompassing engineering, design, installation, and maintenance. The combined experience, knowledge and expertise of all five divisions enables the group to develop and implement fully-integrated solutions for some of the most complex and demanding mechanical, electrical and public health engineering installations.
We guarantee a smooth handover transition with the project team remaining the main point of contact, the development of commissioning and training plan and regular visits from our team in the months after practical completion.
