The brief

Briggs & Forrester were responsible for the design, install and commission the various mechanical, electrical and public health systems at the Rocester School, Staffordshire.

Located in the village of Rocester near Uttoxeter, the facility has replaced two former schools, Dove First School and Ryecroft Middle School, which have been brought together under one roof, although they will still operate as two separate schools.

In order to maintain their unique identities the two schools are located either side of the central communal spaces which act as a cohesive environment, affording equal use to both schools, a gathering point for all, including community out of hours use.

Briggs & Forrester provided building services installation including mixed mode ventilation, heating via radiant panels, sprinklers, lighting, small power, fire alarms and security systems with controls to ensure optimum use of energy.

Developing on a ‘Greenfield’ site offered a variety of complex challenges including visual amenity, topography and flood mitigation. A considered solution coupled with the sensitive location and orientation of the building resulted in a design solution that silhouettes the buildings comfortably within the existing landscape.

What we did for this project...

We have a fully integrated design and build capability across the group, including 3D coordination and Building Information Modelling. By developing the design and being fully involved in the early stages of a project, we can provide timely design solutions and verification.

The group provides a range of specialist skills encompassing engineering, design, installation, and maintenance. The combined experience, knowledge and expertise of all five divisions enables the group to develop and implement fully-integrated solutions for some of the most complex and demanding mechanical, electrical and public health engineering installations.

We guarantee a smooth handover transition with the project team remaining the main point of contact, the development of commissioning and training plan and regular visits from our team in the months after practical completion.
