Design and build of a new sports building providing improved sports facilities
The brief
The new Sports Building at Southampton Solent University provides access to improved sport and physical activity facilities for students and staff. The building increases its profile and standing in the British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS), and enables excellence for the teaching of sport, health and fitness related degree programmes.
The building is 5 storeys, with a large part of the building being the sports halls which is over 3 storeys. Ground and first floor comprises of sports halls, gyms and changing areas while the second to fourth floors comprise of further gyms and some teaching spaces.
MEP services to the new sports building included ventilation, BMS controls, smoke vent, air conditioning, LTHW, CHW, LV distribution, lighting, small power, fire alarm, PA/VA, access control, CCTV, data/voice & disabled alarms.

What we did for this project...
We have a fully integrated design and build capability across the group, including 3D coordination and Building Information Modelling. By developing the design and being fully involved in the early stages of a project, we can provide timely design solutions and verification.
The group provides a range of specialist skills encompassing engineering, design, installation, and maintenance. The combined experience, knowledge and expertise of all five divisions enables the group to develop and implement fully-integrated solutions for some of the most complex and demanding mechanical, electrical and public health engineering installations.
We guarantee a smooth handover transition with the project team remaining the main point of contact, the development of commissioning and training plan and regular visits from our team in the months after practical completion.
