The brief

The 4000m2 three storey building provides a new 350 seat lecture theatre as well as 28 seminar rooms and social learning space, based around an internal street.

The space is used by students and supports the lifelong learning provision offered by the University. It features open soffits with exposed services and rafts employed for acoustics.

Services include: PHX and plant areas are contained within a basement plantroom and rise through strategically placed niche risers. FCU used for the heating and cooling to seminar rooms. Direct hot water and heating to be served by the on-site district heating main via a PHX. Chilled water services to be served via local room mounted chiller. Roof mounted AHUs for heating and cooling to lecture theatre. Separate AHUs providing additional ventilation to seminar rooms. Natural ventilation strategy to atrium/street with controlled opening window to each gable end and roof lights.

What we did for this project...

We have a fully integrated design and build capability across the group, including 3D coordination and Building Information Modelling. By developing the design and being fully involved in the early stages of a project, we can provide timely design solutions and verification.

The group provides a range of specialist skills encompassing engineering, design, installation, and maintenance. The combined experience, knowledge and expertise of all five divisions enables the group to develop and implement fully-integrated solutions for some of the most complex and demanding mechanical, electrical and public health engineering installations.

We guarantee a smooth handover transition with the project team remaining the main point of contact, the development of commissioning and training plan and regular visits from our team in the months after practical completion.
